‘Go And Die’ Gov., Adams Oshiomhole, Begs Widow With N2m And Job Offer
Call it the power of PR and you won't be totally wrong. The gods seem to be happy again with Edo State governor, Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole, who insulted a poor widow and also confiscated her wares two weeks ago while on an inspection tour of the state capital.
The governor, in his immodest rage, had told the widow, Mrs. Joy Ifije, to 'go and die'.
The widow was accused by the governor of obstructing roads and causing hardships for other road users and other traders in the market by displaying her wares at road side.
As soon as he ordered that her wares be seized, the widow was said to have gone on both knees, begging the governor to spare her because the wares was all she had to feed herself and kids since her breadwinner died and left them with nothing.
“So, your husband died, and you want to kill other people because of that? You too can go and die and join your husband”, was the reply Governor Oshiomhole gave her. That statement from the governor not only drew emotions and moved many to tears including some of the governor's aides who followed him on the tour. Members of the public also took the fight up and bombarded the governor with condemnations.
But, expectedly, the governor invited Mrs. Ifije to his office the next day. Apart from having tea with her and her male child, Oshiomhole also donated the sum of two million naira and offered her automatic employment in the state's civil service.
Did you ask if that made any magic? Yes, it did.
Oshiomhole is now hailed for that action!
