Gov Okorocha Call To Return To Agric In Right Direction—Imo Deputy

Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere has extolled Governor Okorocha's call on Nigerians to return to agriculture last Saturday at Upe Autonomous Community, Ngor Okpala Local Government of Imo State.

Speaking during the New Yam Festival of Upe people of Upe Autonomous Community, which he described as a great tradition that fosters unity, he said it is one of the cultural heritages of Ndigbo, which promotes robust competition among Igbo farmers on who is the greatest in productivity.

He further reminded the people of Ngor Okpala and their numerous guests to go back to farming as the only viable means through all nations guarantee the feeding of its populace. He further averred that any nations that is not capable of feeding itself is not worth the status.

He said that Gov. Okorocha in his wisdom has revamped the former Ada Palm now Imo Palm Plantation to a mega profitable venture. He enthused that Governor Okorocha has for the replication of same in various zones of the State.

He further observed that Nigeria's economy is monoculture as over seventy percent of its foreign earnings at present is solely dependent of Crude. He alerted the people of the present danger the Nigerian economy has been put at over the discovery of shale oil, which may be bring to an end the reliance on crude as a veritable means of foreign exchange.

"His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha in a bid to re-invigorate agriculture is constructing fifteen kilometer Road in the twenty-seven local government s of Imo State while almost doubling that of backward local governments for Ngor Okpala, Onuimo and Nwangele Local governments are among; he has also made education free from primary to tertiary level. These are incentives for which most countries have never had", he enthused.

He called on the people to take Palm planting seriously and other cash crops advising every local government to go into areas they have comparative. Other dignitaries in Deputy Governor's entourage were Commissioner for Information, Theodore Ekechi, Special Assistant Political to Imo Deputy Governor, Chief Chris Nwike, Special Assistant, Media, to Deputy Governor, Uche Onwuchekwa, Executive Assistant, Public Affairs to the Deputy Governor, Linda Levi-Chikere etcetera.

Meanwhile, the people Upe, through their their traditional ruler, HRH, Eze Okoro, used the opportunity to commend Rescue Mission Government for his excellency performances and dividends of Democracy in Ngor Okpala, even as member representing the local government, Hon. Emeka Nwaofor and Sole Administrator of the Local Government, Okere, reeled out numerous projects completed by Imo State Governor. Eze Okoro however called on Zimo State Governor to help fix Upe-Imerienwe road due its economic impotance.
