Stock market index grows by 0.5%

Activities on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed higher on Monday with the All-Share Index, which opened at 37,883.53, appreciating by 170.22 points or 0.45 per cent to close at 38,053.75 points.

The market capitalisation also rose by N54 billion or 0.45per cent to close at N12.171 trillion, as against N12.117 trillion achieved on Friday.

Nestle topped the gainers’ chart, appreciating by N49.78 to close at N1, 178.78 per share.

Guinness grew by N5.01 to close at N235.01, while Mobil Oil chalked up N3.90 to close at N118.90 per share.

7UP increased by N3.90 to close at N71.40, while Mrs Oil grew by N3.39 to close at N55.90 per share.

Con Oil on the other hand led the losers’ chart, losing N3.80 to close at N72.20 per share.

Nigerian Breweries came second on the losers chart with N1.61 to close at N166.99, while NAHCO lost 30k to close at N5.70 per share.

Computer Warehouse Group trailed, as investors’ staked N538.51 million on 96.15 million shares, while Wapic Insurance sold 83.26 million shares valued N72.12 million.

Zenith Bank accounted for 41.95 million shares worth N859.57 million, while Access Bank traded 37.19 million shares valued N357.86 million.

In all, the volume of shares traded dipped to 862.69 million shares worth N5.71 billion traded in 5,639 deals compared with 377.34 million shares valued N2.74 billion achieved in 4,835 deals on Friday.
