Mr Nwabu, in a statement released to the media, said the first leg of the tour would take Mr. Maduekwe to Malawi where he will hold talks on issues of bilateral and multilateral interests to both countries.

'He is scheduled to meet with the foreign minister as well as President Bingu wa Mutharika, who is the current AU Chairman. The recent military intervention in Niger Republic, which has been largely condemned by both the AU and ECOWAS will be one of the issues to be discussed with the AU Chairman,' Mr. Nwabu said.

Mr. Maduekwe would also visit Mozambique, Angola, Namibia and Botswana, where he is expected to meet with the foreign ministers and other top government officials of those countries.

The minister is accompanied by the chairman, House Committee on Foreign Relations, Umar Bature.

Back from Saudi Arabia
Mr. Maduekwe was one of those on the six-member delegation that was sent to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia to visit the ailing Mr. Yar'Adua shortly before he was brought back to Nigeria.

He however told state house correspondent before the team left the country that the mission was just to go and thank the King of Saudi Arabia for taking care of the president; a mission whose report is yet to be submitted, six day after their arrival.
