About 35 people have been killed in two attacks by gunmen in Borno state Nigeria.

A military statement reveals that 32 militants, two soldiers and a police officer died in the assaults on a police station and a military base late on Sunday.

According to the military, sophisticated weapons and explosives were used in the attacks.

The twin attacks in Borno happened on Sunday, but news of them has only just emerged.

This is due to breakdown in communications within the region since the state of emergency was declared.

The attacks are suspected to have been carried out by terrorist group Boko Haram, as it follows their usual style of attacks. Although they have not come out to claim responsibility.
