Why Police declared Rivers lawmaker Lloyd wanted

Details have emerged on why the Nigeria Police declared Leader of Rivers House of Assembly, Chidi Lloyd, wanted

Lloyd had penultimate Tuesday bludgeoned a colleague, Okechukwu Chinda, with a mace, when a fight broke out between pro-Governor Chibuike Amaechi legislators, and those opposed to him.

A camera had caught  Lloyd, an Amachi loyalist, repeatedly battering a bloodied Chinda with the mace. The camera also caught Amaechi’s Aide de Camp (ADC), Debewari Seimeikumo, and the Chief Security Officer (CSO), Tony Iwelu, assaulting some law makers.

Pointblanknews.com gathered that, shortly after the video clips went viral,  the police had summoned all the parties involved in the fracas, for investigation. Aside Lloyd, all the concerned law makers honoured the police invitation.

The police, it was further gathered, followed up by visiting Lloyd’s house. The law maker, whom the police suspected had gone underground, still couldn’t be located. The cook was said to have signed a copy of the summons, on behalf of his boss.

Shortly after, it was gathered, Lloyd’s lawyer wrote the police, stating the inability of his client to appear. The lawmaker’s lawyer reportedly told the police, in a letter, that his client was injured in the fracas, and was being treated in a hospital.

When the police sought to know the hospital, the lawyer maintained he was under strict instructions not to disclose such information.

Sources close to the law maker told Pointblanknews.com that explanations by the police that Lloyd was the only person who shunned their invitation didn’t yield much result.

The police had even reportedly explained that they had gone to several hospitals and taken the statements of injured lawmakers, and the doctors, and that visiting Lloyd in hospital would help sustain his claim that he was actually injured in the fracas.

“It was when it became crystal clear that Lloyd was playing mind games with the police that they declared him wanted,” a family source told Pointblanknews.com.

The source expressed regrets that the fracas had dealt a huge blow to the friendship that existed between Lloyd and Chinda.

“They were very close neighbours in their legislators’ quarters. Their wives were very close friends. In fact, before the fight, both lawmakers used to call up each other and joke about their camps’ strategies to outdo the other. What a shame!” lamented the source.

Another friend of the embattled lawmaker told Poinblanknews.com how sad Lloyd had become since the incident. He had reportedly called some friends with blocked numbers, and lamented how infamous the crisis had made him.

“Lloyd is not a violent man. He is a very amiable person. He carried his loyalty to Amaechi a little too far. See how the whole thing has painted him. I guess that is why he is so ashamed of himself and gone underground,” the source added.
