SAN FRANCISCO, April 17, (THEWILL) - Inmates at Ikoyi prison in Lagos can look forward to a day of free eye care as Metro Eyes Nigeria Limited has organized a full eye care outreach for the inmates of Ikoyi prisons on the 18th of April, 2013.

The event is scheduled to begin in the morning.

The target according to the organizers is to see as many inmates as possible with the help of volunteering professionals versed in eye care services and who also share the founder’s passion.

The event is designated to mark the 20th year anniversary of the death of Dr. Olusegun Oyeleye, the founder of Metro Eyes.

Bolanle Kemi Ugbode, daughter of the deceased, said her father had always had a passion for helping out the less impoverished members of society.

“The aim of the event is to continually propagate the cause of preventing blindness. This is a cause he always believed in,” she said.

The Metro Eye event will feature full screening, distribution of drugs, glasses and contact lenses, and surgeries will be scheduled if the need arises, the company said, adding that materials have been donated to the outreach by friends and suppliers to show their goodwill and support.

Also, notable ophthalmologists and optometrists will be participating in the outreach, the organizer added.
