ABUJA, September 14, (THEWILL) - The House of Representatives Committee on Diaspora on Wednesday called for collaboration with the National Universities Commission (NUC), on comprehensive database on Nigerian academics in the diaspora.

The chairman of the committee, Rep. Abike Dabiri-Erewa (ACN-Lagos), gave this indication during a courtesy visit on the Executive Secretary of the commission, Prof. Julius Okojie in Abuja.

Dabiri-Erewa said that there was a need to have complete data on all Nigerian academics all over the world so that they could be celebrated.

"It is a shame that we do not have a database of Nigerians in the Diaspora," she said.

According to her, one of the challenges confronting Nigerians in the diaspora is the problem of a database.

She said that the issue of Nigerians in diaspora voting in elections in the country would be treated when there is a database.

The legislator however, called for more funding for the programme currently being undertaking by the commission.

She commended the commission on the appointment of the three Vice chancellors from the diaspora.

Earlier, Okojie bemoaned the absence of a full database of Nigerian academics in the diaspora.
