Nsukka murder: 16 on police wanted list

Sixteen people are on the wanted list of the Enugu State Police Command following the killing of a human rights activist and politician, Ozioko Christopher Ejike Onah, aka Papa Nsukka, last week.

Onah who was killed at his residence at Agbani- Nguru, in Nsukka Local Government Area of the state, , thus causing tension in the area.

Sources said those being sought by the police participated in the murder of  Onah.

The Agbani Nguru community paid a solidarity visit to Nsukka Divional Police Officer, DPO, James Nwokolo, to assure him that they were solidity behind the police in their efforts to unveil the circumstance surrounding the murder.

Briefing newsmen later on the issue, a community leader in the area, Chief Ikechukwu Obayi, explained that they were law abiding citizens who do not harbour criminals of any kind, ruling out the allegation that Onah's death had something to do with  land dispute.

According to Obayi, the deceased, until his death, was the chairman of the land committee of  Ogbagu Nkpunano.

He explained that the Agbani Nguru community had concluded plans to set up a committee  to  assist the police in their investigations to track down the killers.

Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amarizu had, while reacting to the killing, said  a case of malicious damage to property had earlier been reported against the deceased, pointing out that his killing could ''be a reprisal.''

'Our major concern now is to conduct an autopsy but no arrest has been made,'' Amarizu hinted.
