San Francisco Jan 19, (THEWILL) – Violence broke out again on Tuesday morning in Jos, Plateau State. Christian and Muslim groups clashed killing many people. There are reports that more than 150 people have been killed since the clashes started on Sunday.

The state government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the city in response to the clashes as the violence spreads to Bukuru, southern Jos.

The Governor of the state Mr. Jonah David Jang has deployed more security officers to the area to quell the clashes.

Vice President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday authorized the deployment of federal troops to the state to restore calm and peace. His spokesman Ima Niboro said the federal government was on top of the situation.

The clashes started after a disagreement between Christian and Muslim neighbours over the rebuilding of residences destroyed in the November 2008 violence, which killed hundreds of people in the state.
