WHY LG ELECTION IS DELAYED IN EDO

By NBF News

http://www.nigerianbestforum.com/blog/?attachment_id=122214 Elections into local government councils in Edo State have been delayed due to the non accent of the recently passed local government election bill by the Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole,  LEADERSHIP gathered yesterday.

A visit to the head office of the reconstituted Edo State Independent Electoral Commission, EDSIEC, located at Oko area of the Benin City indicates that plans are already underway by staff of the commission to conduct elections into the Councils.

The Chairman of the commission, Retired Justice Solomon Ogor,   was not available to speak on the preparedness of the commission when our correspondent visited his office. It was however gathered that funds have been made available for the conduct of the elections, but the electoral body is only waiting for the governor to append his signature to the Edo State local government election bill.

It would be recalled that the former chairman of the commission, Retired Justice Tony Okonega had dragged the State government to Court over what he described as unlawful dissolution of the state electoral commission.

But Oshiomhole on his part had justified the state government position when he insisted that the then chairman of the commission and its members were card carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP).

The court action instituted by Okonega may have also contributed to the delay of councils' election.
