OPEN LETTER TO CHIEF OBASANJO

By Comrade Edwin Ekene

Your Excellency, it is in sorrow rather than in anger that I have decided to voice out my concerns over your uncharacteristic behavior towards Jonathan's Presidency!

Sir, we are all aware that, no leader has ever emerged in the history of any nation without the consent of heaven. In fact, the Holy Book of Romans, 13:1-2 says: “Everyone must obey the state authorities, because, no authority exists without God's permission, and the existing authorities have been put there by God. Whoever opposes the existing authority opposes what God has ordered; and anyone who does so will bring judgment on himself”.

The media blitz you have launched against President Good Luck Jonathan's Transformation Agenda has the capacity of causing more harms than good in a country that was on the brink of a precipice, before his emergence as the Acting President in February 2010, and subsequently, as full President in May 2010, upon the death of Late President Umaru Musa Yar'Dua (RIP), and finally, his re-election last year!

While, I believe that, a successful man must have a successful successor, it is also my firm and unyielding belief that kings must never dance in the market place; because if such happens, what would be the dancing style of his subjects?

The love we have and express for our beloved country is inexplicable, but sometimes, we may disagree over best approaches on how to move the nation forward; the method we use in transmitting certain critical ideas may look suspicious. This is because; a statesman must be a living oracle for consultation any time, any day!

Sir, why I may not want to dabble in to any of the contentious issues at stake, it is my belief, that stakeholders must have a well organized and effective means of communication, especially, when it comes to issues of national development. Without mincing words sir, there are privileged information and there are general information. Privileged information is for people like you, whom God Almighty has blessed in every standard used in measuring success. If such privileged information is used in expressing individual opinion in public spheres, I wonder how the people will receive and react to such!

Nonetheless, no matter how we conceived a man to be weak, I think we should not try and dictate for him, rather, we should appeal to his conscience, because conscience according to Othman Danfodio, is an open wound, only the truth can heal it.

Living in a digital age, where every event immediately transforms in to history, I think, we should not allow little disagreement to degenerate to a point where one will be tempted to throw away the baby with the bath water. This particular idea or act is not really good for our beloved country, because of its multipliers effects. Like the cause and effect theory, the effects of such action may be unimaginable.

Finally, no kingdom should wage war on the other kingdoms, because, a kingdom lost may be hard to regain. Since history is on the move, we should try to be on the right side of history, because posterity will certainly judge us.
