Reports reaching Nollywoodgists.com has it that some officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) allegedly beat a bus driver to death this morning.

According to an eyewitness account, the yet-to-be identified 'danfo' bus driver was reportedly blocked at Town Planning area of Ilupeju, Lagos State by the LASTMA officials at both front and back sides of his bus where the incidelt reportedly happened. They (LASTMA officials) were said to have then tried confiscating his bus key from him, but he (the late danfo driver) refused. This, according to the eyewitness account, resulted in the traffic officials allegedly beating him up until he was restless and was reportedly in coma.

He was later rushed to Gbagada hospital where he was said to have been pronounced dead by medical officials at the hospital.

"They (LASTMA officials and some police with them) started beating him when he refused to hand over his keys to them. They beat him with sticks, guns (some policemen attached to the transport officials) and everything readily available at their disposal.

"That is how they treat us everyday. They do harass us with the aim of taking money from us. We (danfo drivers) don't need them again. Fashola should get them off the roads. They are worse than the police," an anonymous danfo driver, who claimed to have also witnessed the fatal incident, told Nollywoodgists.com.

Last week, Governor fashola reportedly threatened to withdraw LASTMA's services from Lagos roads for a day. This is aimed at making Lagosians realise their importance, Fashola had thought.

As at press time we were unable to get reactions of LASTMA and the Lagos police command on the incident. We promise to update you soon on that.
