I Want To Be A Nurse But...

Dear Auntie Betty,

I am a girl of 14 and in JHS Two. I have always aspired to be a nurse but anytime I see blood I become tensed up and do not know what to do. Is it right for me to take up that profession?

Dear Adizatu,

It is not strange that you are unable to stand the sight of blood. If you really are passionate about nursing, I believe you can overcome it, but it will be a gradual process. Look for a nurse to talk to all the time.

Ask her all the questions you have and decide whether you would really want to be a nurse. If, after all this, you are not sure about how you feel about nursing sick people, then you have to change your future profession.

There are many wonderful professions which are aimed at assisting people so if that’s your passion I believe you can find another one such as social work — assisting deprived people, caring for abandoned children, etc.
