As the MTN at 10 years celebration comes to an end, a Benue State-born police officer and clergyman, James Orkuma, emerged one of the lucky winners of 10 million naira at the grand finale of the MTN 1 billion Naira mega reward.
A highly elated Orkuma who was initially short of words, declared that God was really at work 'This is unbelievable. I never expected it. I thought it was a fraud, a prank by someone.'
Apart from Orkuma, nine other people also emerged 10 million Naira winners. One of them, Abam Peace Okoi, a 30-year old civil servant from Cross River State was exceedingly grateful to MTN for the kind gesture.
She said MTN had given her an exceptional opportunity to take care of her younger siblings and open new vistas in her life. 'MTN has turned me to a new person. I cannot even say exactly what I am going to do now. Infact, it is a new dawn,' Okoi said.
While speaking on the rationale for the scheme, Kola Oyeyemi, General Manager, Consumer Marketing, MTN, said that the mega reward which started on September 7, 2011 has put smiles on the faces of thousands of MTN subscribers.
'We are very happy it is coming to an end in a fantastic way. In our usual way, we have broken new frontiers and charted a new course which no organization has ever done before,' he noted.
Oyeyemi further stated that through the reward scheme, MTN sought to encourage customers to register their SIMs before the deadline in 2010 and to have the mindset that nothing is impossible.
'When we started the 1 billion naira mega reward scheme, many believed it was a 'mission impossible', but today we have made indelible marks in the hearts of many of our subscribers. The multiplier effect is unimaginable,' he declared.
