All seems set for the first ever Stunts and Effects Seminar in Lagos, Nigeria, as Colin Handley, the Principal of Australian Stunts Academy and other facilitators storm Lagos come October, 12th-16th, 2009 at the Cinema Hall, National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos. The stunts and special effects seminar is an innovative initiative, geared towards adding value to the Nigerian motion picture Industry. This concept is an initiative of 4956 Limited in partnership with the Australian Stunts Academy; it is the first time in Nigeria where such it's taking place.

A stunt is an unusual and difficult physical feat, or any act requiring a special skill, performed for artistic purposes in TV, theatre, or cinema. Stunts are a big part of many action movies, musicals, TV Productions. Popular Stunt Actors include Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, Jayan, Hrithik Roshan, Yakima Canutt, Rick Sylvester(James Bond), Tom Cruise, Arnold Swartzenegger, Keanu Reaves, Sebastian Foucan etc.

According to the spokesperson of the seminar, Romeo Nyamatsa, “we are happy to be part of this revolution that is taking place in Nigeria especially to our motion picture industry (movies, adverts, musical videos, documentary etc) in terms of knowledge/ empowerment. We are proud to say that the seminar facilitator is the world renowned Stunts man, Colin Handley, the Principal of the Australian Stunts Academy is a force to reckon with in Hollywood and in the industry globally, as he has worked with several popular actors like Arnold Swartzenegger, Silvestre Stallone, Jean Claude Van Damme to name a few. He specialized in fights, falls and car hits and he has since 1984 carved a niche and quite a career for himself ” he postulated.

The objectives of the seminar include increasing the knowledge base and empowering the film makers and other TV Producers in Nigeria/the creative services industry, to strategically reposition Nollywood as a force to reckon with internationally, not only in the area of exporting films as rated by CNN as the second in the world but in terms of quality and world-class production and to align with other social forces in guaranteeing a turn-around in the Nollywood to meet the challenges of socio-economic and industrial Development in the future etc.

And some all-time stunt movies include The Lord of the Rings, Minority Report, Mission; Impossible, Live and Let Die, Papillon, Butch Cassidy& the Sun dance Kid, The Great Escape, The Living Daylights, Speed, Casino Royale etc..

Today, Nigeria music industry has grown tremendously in the area of quality musical video productions and even the motion picture generally has improved making use of special effects, scintillating graphics and exceptional montages, this has increased the bar of the industry positively.
