VOLUME OF CONTAINERS SCANNED AT PORTS HAS INCREASED - COTECNA BOSS

LAGOS - The number of containers scanned at the ports daily has increased from about 60 to 130 with the introduction of direct trucking by APM Terminals, Managing Director of Cotecna Destination Inspection Nigeria Limited, CDINL, Mr. Tayo Rabiu, has said.

Rabiu, who spoke to Vanguard, said in addition to the introduction of the direct trucking by APM Terminals, constant consultation between stakeholders had helped to increase the number of scanned containers.

He explained that the volume of containers scanned at Ashaye and RoRo both at Tin-can Island ports had also gone up to between 80 to 90 daily from the previous 50.

He said the increase so far witnessed was not enough because it was no where near the over 200 daily capacity of the scanners.

The Cotecna boss said that their was more spade problem at both Apapa and RoRo because of the arrangement at Apapa and the provision of dedicated space at RoRo, adding that the situation was different at Ashaye, where they were still battling with the problem of space because trucks have to wait after their containers  had been scanned.

He disclosed that the number  scanned containers would have been higher but for the problem of space.
