GROUP DEMANDS RESIGNATION OF PDP NWC MEMBERS

By NBF News

A group, Peoples Democratic Party National Transformation Network has demanded for the resignation of members of the Peoples Democratic Party National Working Committee.

The 12-man committee has been depleted in recent times. While Dr Haliru Bello Mohammed and Samuel Ortom, acting national chairman and national auditor, respectively had been nominated for ministerial positions, the party lost its national youth leader, Chief Muyiwa Collins to the cold hands of death.

Addressing journalists in Abuja yesterday, Coordinator, PDP National Transformation Network, Prince Bello God'spower, called for a special national convention to produce new set of leaders for the party, as he dismissed the present leadership as self-seeking and bereft of vision for the party.

'The self-seeking agenda of the current NWC members to hold on to power at all cost is the bane of cohesion and direction in the party; the party has lost supremacy and total control of its members.

'The issue of acting national chairman of the party at this auspicious moment of global transformation and the succession to the position of national chairman of our great party to come from the existing officials who have lost the confidence of the members of the party is unacceptable, they had all failed in their responsibilities as a team to organize the party.

'This is evident in the actions of the elected members on the platform of the party in the national assembly, they vehemently disobeyed the party decisions and resisted the zoning arrangement of the party.

'This cannot happen in Africa National Congress, where party decision is binding on all members, irrespective of status. This is as a result of insensitivity on the part of the leadership of the party.

'We, therefore, as  a matter of party interest called on all few members of NWC  to resign with immediate effect as it is most honourable thing to do at this critical moment to allow for total transformation and reorganization. We cannot continue to be patient with reform any more, we are poised to move for total transformation in the party.''

Reacting to the agitation for position of national chairman of the party by chieftains of the PDP from South-east, God'spower dismissed it as unwarranted, since the zone had been compensated with the position of the secretary to the government of the federation (SGF). 'The PDP National Transformation Network as a matter of canvassing for party supremacy that is lacking in the current NWC do hereby advice the South-east group agitating for the position of national chairman slot to be returned to them to desist from such agitations.

'They are right under Section 14.5 of the PDP constitution, but that position has been swapped with the position of SGF that they are currently enjoying; the move by the South-east is belated and overtaken by events. It will also be recalled that the South-east is enjoying among other things the position of the deputy Senate president and deputy speaker while the North-east and Southwest are virtually empty.'
