ACN DENIES BEING ALLOCATED 5 MINISTERIAL SLOTS

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has denied a report published by the Sunday Trust of May 8, 2011 that the party has been allocated five ministerial slots in the incoming cabinet of President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party reiterated its earlier statement that it will not be a part of the so-called Government of National Unity (GNU) being planned by the President.

''How can the ACN get any ministerial slot when the party leadership has said, categorically, that it is not interested in the coalition government being planned by the President? On what basis will the cabinet slots be given to the ACN? And is it by force that we participate in President Jonathan's government?'' it queried, ACN said no amount of shenanigans by those who are planting such devious stories will force the party to rescind its decision not to participate in the GNU.

''As we said before, we are the leading opposition party and a government-in-waiting. Our stand is based on our aim of fostering a strong democratic system, which cannot be achieved in a one-party state that our participation in a unity government will help to achieve.

''Also, since light and darkness cannot co-habit, ACN cannot work with the PDP under any circumstance. We will therefore appreciate if those who are day-dreaming about ACN's involvement in a PDP-led federal government will get a life!'' the party said.
