The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) gubernatorial candidate in Akwa Ibom State, Senator John James Akpan Udoedehe has been arrested.

Police boss Hafiz Ringim made this disclosure earlier today, at a meeting with Senior Police Officers from the rank of Commissioners and above in Abuja on preparations towards next month's general elections .

According to Ringim, ACN candidate would soon be arraigned for alleged murder.

He said about 40 other persons were also arrested in connection with the mayhem that engulfed the capital Uyo two days. More than 10 persons loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the AC were killed , with cars and properties worth millions were torched.

Pointblanknews.com learnt that Udoedeghe is alleged to be one of the masterminds of the clash.

The IGP further disclosed that the Police is also investigating some candidates from Ogun State for alleged forgery.

He charged all the CPs to obey the directives of the federal government on the use of policemem attached to VIPs on election day.

"Police officers attached to government functionaries, state chief executives, ministers and members of the National Assembly as security details must maintain the briefs of their postings.

"Escort duties on election days must be scaled down and restricted accordingly.

 
"For the aviodance of doubt, with the exception of Mr President/Vice President, Governors and their deputies, Senate President/Deputy senate President, Speaker and Deputy, whose ADCs will be duly directed on their expected conduct during elections.

"Ministers and other VIPs will be accompanied by one policeman each to cast their votes after which they will return to their homes.
