US Senate Money Laundering Investigations: Jennifer Jemila Atiku Plans To Flee Dubai For Switzerland

By SaharaReporters, New York

Investigations by Saharareporters reveal that former Vice President Abubakar Atiku, who is entangled in corruption investigations by US authorities, has completed plans to move his fourth wife, Jennifer Iwenjiora Atiku (aka Jemila Abubakar Atiku), from her current base in Dubai to Switzerland.

Our impeccable sources disclosed that Mr. Atiku, who was recently chosen by a committee of so-called Northern elders as the region's “consensus” presidential candidate, has decided to quickly relocate his controversial wife in order to avert her possible arrest and extradition to the US to face money-laundering charges.

According to a report issued by the US Senate permanent committee on investigations, Mrs. Atiku received bribes totaling $2.4 million from Siemens. The bribes were wired into her US accounts.

“The US government is pressuring the Dubai authorities to arrest Mrs. Jennifer Atiku and hand over to America for trial,” said a source.

Mrs. Atiku, a former television broadcaster in Nigeria, did her graduate studies at Howard University in the United States. She was reputed for her lavish lifestyle, including her occupation of her husband's imposing mansion in Potomac, Maryland, an upscale town with many multi-million dollar homes.

“The fact of the matter is that Jennifer [Atiku] was the conduit for many of her husband's corrupt deals during his years as vice president,” a minister in former President Olusegun Obasanjo's administration told Saharareporters.

Our sources said Jennifer Atiku and her husband decided she must move from Dubai, part of the United Arab Emirates, following the arrest of former Governor James Ibori by the authorities in Dubai. Mr. Ibori has since being detained by the UAE authorities whose courts have approved his extradition to face trial in the UK. Ibori's appeal of that decision is pending, but legal experts in both the UK and Dubai told Saharareporters that his odds of evading extradition are extremely low.

Mr. Ibori sneaked out of Nigeria and arrived in Dubai after a tense “standoff” with Nigeria's security agencies who planned to arrest him in his country home of Oghara, Delta State where he was holed up after authorities sought him to answer to money laundering charges.

After his arrest in Dubai, Mr. Ibori was granted bail by the UAE court after his first appearance. However, one source told Saharareporters that US government officials pressured the UAE authorities to re-arrest and detain him pending his extradition trial.

Jennifer left the US soon after the US government began discreet investigations into bribery schemes involving Siemens. She relocated to Dubai where her husband owns a mansion.

A source aware of the Atikus' plan told Saharareporters that the former VP and presidential aspirant has already acquired a property at 2 Place De Gustave Seguir, Switzerland as Jennifer's new abode.

Last week, Mrs. Jennifer Atiku (nee Iwenjiora) was sighted partying hard at a party in Yola, Adamawa State to celebrate the marriage of one of her husband's numerous daughters.
