The Bauchi State government has denied paying councillors in the state poor salaries. Special Adviser to Governor Isa Yuguda, Abdulmumini Mohammed Kundak made the denial yesterday in Bauchi while addressing newsmen.

Kundak was responding to an allegation by the member representing Tafawa Balewa /Bula constituency, Alhaji Aminu Tukur, who alleged that councillors in Bauchi State were the least paid in the country.

Kundak said had it been the councillors had any problem regarding their salaries/ allowances; they would have channelled their complaints through his office, but that he was yet to receive such.

He maintained that despite the economic meltdown, the state governor has done a lot in the area of human development and empowerment since he assumed office three years ago.

Kundak said he served as a deputy speaker during the regime of Governor Ahmadu Mu'azu and that the councillors' package now is better than what they were receiving before.

He added that the government had done a lot to improve the living standard of the people in the rural areas through the provision of essential social services.
