Ondo institutes Education Foundation for late Don ....restates resolve to restore lost glory in education

The Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has instituted an Education Foundation in honour and memory of the first Professor in Idanre, in Idanre Local Government area of the State, Prof Eniola Adeniyi.

Prof Adeniyi, a Professor of Development Planning died recently.

Governor Mimiko who made this announcement during the burial of ceremony of the deceased in Idanre at the weekend pledged to support the Foundation with the personal donation of N500, 000 for ten years in addition to the N2.5million initial donation by the State Government.

Mimiko noted that the gesture which was aimed at assisting the education of the less-privileged, was in recognition of the deceased various contributions to the educational development of the people of Idanre. While describing education as the tripod upon which socio-economic development of any society stands, the Governor reaffirmed the committment of his administration to revamping the State;s education sector.

"Over the years, Ondo State has been noted for academic excellence but unfortunately, the reverse is now the case. This administration is determined, more than ever before, to return th elost glory of education in such a way that our graduates will be able to compete favourably with their peers all over the world," Mimiko stated. To achieve this, the Governor outlined the various steps already taken by his administyration to include the building of Caring Heart Mega Primary Schools across the State, the creation of Education Quality asssurance Agency to perform supervisory roles in schools; huge investments on secondary and tertiery education in the State as well as motivation of teachers through the payment of 27.5% salary increase to them.

Mimiko described the late Prof Adeniyi as a humble, diligent man who used his entire lifetime to impact positively on the lives of his people and society in general. While condoling with the widow, Mrs Felicia Adeniyi, the children and the enire family as well as the Idanre Community, Governor Mimiko urged them to emulate the late educationist.
