LAGOS WARNS RESIDENTS ON OCEAN SURGE

By NBF News

Commissioner for Water Front Infrastructure, Prince Adesegun Oniru, gave the advice yesterday at a media briefing on recent ocean surges in some parts of the world, noting that the incident was  natural.

He asked residents not to panic over the expected high tide, assuring that the state government had put many structures in place to prevent the surge which include the permanent barrier at the Bar-Beach and the Lagos Atlantic City.

The commissioner said the briefing was to sensitize the people of Lagos on recent happenings around the world, especially in China, Pakistan, Europe and the Caribbean that were submerged in water.

'There is nothing one can do until we actually change our attitude, because they are caused by nature. Residents should make sure they are careful around the Atlantic Ocean, lagoon and the water ways,' the commissioner warned.

He  also warned residents to desist from dumping refuse into the lagoon, saying its adverse effect was always disastrous, adding, 'the ocean and lagoon are not the best places to drop refuse.'

The commissioner explained that the high rise in the water level was normal due to the movement of the moon between May and December yearly.
