Three New Urban Roads Underway In Calabar
San Francisco, August 08, (THEWILL) - In a concerted effort to decongest vehicular traffic occasioned by the ban on okada in the state capital, the Cross River State Government has concluded plans to construct three new urban roads in Calabar to arrest the situation.
The state Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke disclosed this when he received members of the Presbyterian Assembly led by its out gone Moderator, Rt. Rev. Ubon Usung on a courtesy call in Calabar recently, adding that technical designs for the proposed roads have been completed and that construction will commence as soon as possible.
According to him, the roads include Margaret Ekpo International Airport bypass road which will link the area to MCC Road, New Tinapa – Odukpani Road as well as Marina Road, maintaining that when completed, the three linked roads will drastically check the vehicular traffic menace which he noted as a sign of development resulting from the impact the government has on the citizenry.
He pointed that the 2nd Calabar channelization work will commence as soon as the rains subside, adding that the channelization which is designed to take off from the Murtala Muhammed Highway has already been awarded and contractor will soon be mobilized to effect early take-off of the construction.
On the fight against cultism which he noted is now overwhelming with devastating effect on children, Imoke maintained that government will not rest on its oar in ensuring that the scourge is totally eliminated at all levels in the State.
He cited an instance where a secondary school pupil lost his life when they went for a succession exercise of their cult group, maintaining that all the culprits who have been identified will be made to face the full weight of the law.
Senator Imoke lauded the out gone Moderator for his meritorious service throughout his stay in the Lord’s vine yard and urged him not to rest in contributing to the society as he only retires but is not tired to serve humanity and assured the Church of his support at all times.
Earlier, the out gone Moderator of the Presbyterian Assembly, Rt. Rev. Ubon Usung said he was in Government House to inform the Government of his disengagement, adding that as soon as the selection exercise is concluded, he will present his successor to State Government for recognition.
He recalled the goodwill enjoyed from the state government while serving and called on Governor Imoke to sustain the cordial relationship even after his exit and prayed God to continue to strengthen him to deliver dividends of democracy which include free health programme, Conditional Cash Transfer to poor and vulnerable families and well as other transformation programmes.
