ILAJE II RE-RUN
The Ondo state government today thanks the voters and the people of Ilaje constituency II and the people of Ilaje of Ilaje Local Government in particular for coming out to exercise their civic responsibility by voting at the Ilaje constituency II by-election which was held on Saturday 31st of July 2010 in-spite of harassment and intimidation of voters by the unrepentant PDP army led by Senators Gbenga Oguniya  and Hosea Ehinlanwo and some other Ondo State members of the national assembly who openly and shamelessly went about snatching ballot boxes at gunpoint, harassing innocent voters, kidnapping electoral officials and terrorizing the opposition with unbelievable violence.

The Ondo State Information Commissioner today said in a statement that it is to the credit of the Ondo State spirit that refuses to bow in the face of injustice and oppression that the generality of the people insisted on their voting rights when they dislodged the suspended former Honourable Otito Atikase of the PDP by voting in Mr Kunle Odidi of the Labour Party as heir genuine representative in the Ondo State house of assembly.

We also would like to thank the people of Ondo State in general for refusing to be provoked by the brigandage of the PDP assault-army which included the party's national legal advisor Mr Olusola Oke.

The Ondo State government also commended the sense of duty and responsibility shown by some officers of the Nigerian Police and other law enforcement agents, who ensured that the electoral thieves and vote snatchers did not have their way.

Mr Ranti-Akerele in his statement said the Labour party from all indication has won this election because the people of Ondo State particularly the people in Ilaje constituency II in Ondo State are focused on the continuing efforts to translate to tangible democratic dividends, the confidence they reposed in the party in the 2007 polls and the legal battle that followed. The Labour Party controlled government of Ondo State have always known that in any free and fair election held in the state, it would come out tops, defeating the feeble efforts of the dying PDP in Ondo State.

Akerele said that Saturday's election in more than one way showed the commitment of the people of Ondo State to the Labour Party and The government of Dr Olusegun Mimiko and the rejection of the deep purse and violent ways of the Ondo State PDP.

The people of Ilaje constituency II by their majority votes for the Labour Party candidate, has shown that they identify with a party that is committed to the realization of their hopes dreams and aspirations. We can only ask that the people continue to stand by Labour Party and be assured that the government of Dr Olusegun Mimiko will continue it's drive towards the new Ondo State that we will all be proud of.

Signed: Mr Ranti-Akerele Commissioner for Information
