2010 WORLD CUP: PRINCE TONYE PRINCEWILL RETURNS HOME, DESCRIBES SOUTH AFRICA AS PRIDE OF AFRICA; TASKS IGP ONOVO TO EXPEDITE ACTION TO APPREHEND THE ABDUCTORS OF JOURNALISTS.

By Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze

Prince Tonye Princewill, last night arrived back in the country following a short visit to South Africa, where he was one of the Special Guests of the South African President Jacob Zuma at the closing ceremony of the 2010 World Cup.

Speaking on arrival in the country, he described the event as an exhibition of the large potentials inherent in the Continent as well as a show of hospitality that is largely an African trait. He stated that he was visibly impressed by what he saw of the Country, noting that the rate of infrastructural development in just six years since his last visit in 2004 was an eye opener to the possibility of achieving accelerated development also in Nigeria if all stakeholders in the polity show total commitment to Nation Building. In his own words, “What I saw in South Africa, has further served to strengthen my resolve t remain in politics till we get it right in Nigeria…” He also reiterated the need for quality, seasoned Administrators, bureaucrats and all other qualified Nigerians to get actively involved in Politics to ensure that the nation does not run aground as it is dangerous to leave politics to only the politicians as they have proved that by their obvious shortcomings that they can't move the country forward without these other sets of Nigerians.

Prince Tonye Princewill also vehemently condemned the abduction of the NUJ Chairman Lagos Council, Mr. Wahab Oba, three other key officials along with their driver on their way back from a seminar in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. He said the dastardly act that took place in Abia State only serves to further throw light on the desperation that is becoming the bane of the populace. He wondered why journalists would be kidnapped in their own country and ransomed for large sums of money, stating that the pure decadence of the act is a sordid misrepresentation of the country and its citizens to the comity of Nations. He therefore called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ogbonnaya Onovo to expedite action on all efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of this nefarious act and ensure the release of the abducted men. He prayed that the Almighty God would keep the men safe pending their release as well as give strength and comfort to their various families at this worrisome time. He hoped that this act would serve to bring the much needed attention to the escalating rate of unprecedented cases of kidnapping and abduction in the South East Region of the country. I think it is time those in government start to have a rethink on the manner and ways they accumulate wealth and squander the common patrimony of our people to the neglect of provision of basic amenities and creation of employment for our youths that will go a long way in reducing the hardship being faced by the youths in the present day Nigeria that leads them to crime. Our rich men should try as well to circulate their riches to reach the down trodden and less privileged; I think if these steps are adopted, it will go a long way to reduce the malaise of kidnapping and other related crimes in our nation.

When asked for update on his planned exodus back to the PDP with his supporters and associates, Princewill said that his members are already joining PDP individually, what we are now planning is a mega rally that will assist us make a statement in the politics of Rivers State once he is through with meetings with most of his stakeholders the manner and date for the rally will be made public.
