SULLIVAN, FAN MILK, OTHERS SYMPATHISE WITH THE SUN

Sympathisers have continued to sympathise with the management and staff of The Sun Publishing Limited over the fire incident that gutted the corporate headquarters of the newspaper company last Tuesday during which property worth millions of naira were lost. Among the sympathisers was Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State who described the incident in as tragic and disturbing.

In a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Chukwudi Achife, the governor lamented the heavy losses suffered by the firm and prayed that the incident would not recur.

He also called on individuals and organizations to support the newspaper as it strives to recover from the unfortunate incident.

In the same vein, Ogun State gubernatorial aspirant, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, while noting that the newspaper ranks among the best in the country in its fight for the downtrodden, prayed that the company would recover quickly from the losses caused by the incident.

'I join other well-meaning Nigerians to commiserate with the management and the entire staff on the incident. It is my fervent hope that they would come out of it stronger as I believe that the staff are competent hands who can turn adversity to victory,' Majekodunmi stated.

Apart from the sympathisers, one Apostle M.A Adebayo whose kidnap experience was published in the newspaper two years ago also came forward to extend his condolence to the paper.

He also used the opportunity to thank the newspaper for publishing his December 12, 2008 experience in the hands of kidnappers.

Not only individuals have condoled with the newspaper, some corporate bodies also expressed their sympathies.

In its letter, Fan Milk Plc encouraged the newspaper to view the incident as another opportunity to climb higher in the media industry. It prayed for the management and staff to have 'the courage to bear the current challenge and overcome same with ease.

'It is our prayer that God in his infinite mercy will sustain and help you to overcome this temporary setback so that you can tirelessly continue your educative and informative services to the good people of Nigeria. As a corporate body, we encourage you to view the sad occurrence as another opportunity to move to a higher altitude in the media industry,' the letter said.

Also, Finbank Plc in a letter signed by its Acting Head of Media and External Relations, Barnabas Eke and its Corporate Service Executive, Jane Ogbonna, commended the newspaper company for its resilience by being the newsstands in spite of the fire incident.

'The newspaper has proved itself a cherished voice in all aspects of reporting. We commend your resilience and wish you continued success in business,' the letter stated.
