Gbong Gwom Jos Palace Torched In Fresh Jos Crisis

ABUJA, June 07, (THEWILL) - Fresh reports coming in from Jos has indicated that the palace of the Gbong Gwom Jos, the paramount ruler of the Berom people and chairman of the state’s joint traditional council, Da Gyang Buba was touched in the midday fracas that engulfed the town.


The palace is located off Massalacin Juma’a Street where the confrontation between the commercial motorcycle riders and the police took place.


Our correspondent learnt that while the police were busy on the main streets trying to disperse the protesting commercial motorcycle riders, some of them gained entry through the back road adjoining the palace and climbed into the offices and poured petrol and set fire in one of the offices.

THEWILL further learnt that it was the smoke coming out of the torched office that attracted the security men at the other side who immediately called the attention of the firemen whose office was located nearby and they moved in quickly and put out the fire.

Only the ceiling and parts of the walls of the office were affected.

As at press time people were barred from going into the streets leading to the palace as security men took charge of the entire area.

The palace was until December 2007, the local government office of Jos North local government.
