POTTER STAR COLTRANE’S PAINTING FAILS TO SELL

By NBF News

Robbie Coltrane painted the work while he was an art student

A painting of a train by actor Robbie Coltrane has failed to sell at auction.

It had been expected that the work would fetch about £4,000, but it did not reach its reserve price at the sale in Glasgow.

A spokesman for auctioneers McTear's said it was still expected that there would be offers for the painting.

The train was painted by Coltrane, who played Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, after coming to prominence in the TV series Tutti Frutti.

He received the commission for the picture while studying at Glasgow School of Art in the 1970s.

The work was one of dozens on offer at McTear's Scottish Contemporary Art auction.
