Runaway

By Melanie Miller

Lost, Alone...desolate, afraid, a child on the street...

With nothing to eat...finds an abandon home,
On the outskirts of town.
She takes refuge there and reads an old book, torn and tattered,

like her clothing is.
She fears she will not be warm but the lighter she finds nearby,

Is a clue that tonight she will be warm plus the old rags she sees will do nicely.

Alone she is for now until tomorrow she will seek shelter at a good place and find real friends,

at a shelter home and then no longer will she be alone, as a new family too, she will seek and hopefully,

go to an orphanage and be adopted.
Soon, she will know one way or another and hopefully she will find a new friend who pretends to be her sister or brother.
