SAN FRANCISCO, September 14, (THEWILL) – The gunmen that kidnapped Oluwatoyin Nwosu, the wife of Steve Nwosu, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of The Sun Newspaper, have contacted the family, demanding N100m (about $500K) as ransom.

Oluwatotin was abducted from her Okota-Lagos home early Monday.

THEWILL gathered that the gunmen made the ransom demand in their first phone call to the newspaper executive.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni has described the attack as an “armed robbery operation.” He spoke to journalists at the state police force headquarters in GRA, Ikeja.

Owoseni said the Nwosu residence is being treated as an active crime scene.

Kidnapping for cash is a common crime in southern Nigeria.
