Consultative meeting between AUC and PAP Committee on Education

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, August 24, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- The African Union Commission held a consultative meeting with the Pan African Parliament (PAP) Committee on Education. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed Continental Education Strategy (2016-2025). The discussion included the involvement of PAP in the implementation of the strategy.

The Commissioner of Human Resources, Science and Technology, H.E Dr Martial De-Paul Ikounga, pointed out that the AUC designs policies and relies on the Member States to implement them, hence the need for a close collaborative pact with PAP. He also mentioned that the strategy aligns with AGENDA 2063. The PAP Chairperson of the Committee on Education, Hon. Abdou Ndiaye congratulated the AUC for the initiative being taken towards education. He also spoke of the need to adapt systems of education to African realities and needs.

Commissioner Ikounga assured the honourable parliamentarians that their comments on the draft Continental Education Strategy would be taken on board before it is submitted to the upcoming meeting of the Specialized Technical Committee on Education, Science and Technology.

The Commissioner and the Parliamentarians agreed to develop a collaboration framework under which the parliamentarians would play the key role of communicating the African Union continental frameworks to the national levels, helping promote their domestication and implementation.
