SAN FRANCISCO, June 24, (THEWILL) – Two Lebanese contractors working at a site in former President Goodluck Jonathan's hometown, Onuegbum, Ogbia Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, have been abducted while two policemen providing security were killed during the attack.

The slain policemen were attached to Pache Construction Company, employers of the abducted Lebanese.

The gunmen, numbering about eight, according to witnesses, arrived in the community at about 12.20p.m in two speedboats through the waterway.

The gunmen reportedly besieged the sand dredging site and shot repeatedly into the air to scare away passersby and other workers in the area.

The two policemen responded with gunshots but were killed by the volley of bullets released by the armed men.

Spokesman for Bayelsa Police Command, Mr. Astimin Butswat, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Butswat said the corpses of the policemen had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre for autopsy.

He also said the two abducted Lebanese had been identified as Sarki Abi Chmouli and Ibrahim Abi Pherem.

“We have alerted the marine component of the Police, the Joint Task Force and the Navy,” Butswat said.
