Obiano Assures on Completion of Projects left by Obi

Amid the controversy raised by the recent commissioning of the Nkpor-Amawbia axis of the old Onitsha – Enugu Expressway, the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has assured that would fulfil his promise of completing and commissioning all projects left behind by his predecessor, former governor Peter Obi.

Giving the assurance at the commissioning of Awkuzu-Igbariam-Achalla Road, governor Obiano re-emphasized the fact that his administration would never waver from the CONTINUITY Promise upon which he ran his gubernatorial campaign.

Speaking on the Awkuzu-Igbariam-Achalla Road, governor Obiano said, “this project was started by my predecessor and I completed it. That is consistent with my Four Cs which I promised when I was campaigning for election. To continue, complete, commission all projects originated by my predecessor and commence another set of projects that will change Anambra State.”

According to him, the “commissioning” of roads was a major component of the Continuity promise. Said he; “I want to put it on record that there is no single project left behind by my predecessor that I have abandoned. Not one,” he emphasized expressing the optimism that the communities that the road was meant to serve would strive to preserve it.”

The governor noted that he was very acquainted with the history of the road which had collapsed twice in the past and blamed it on the indiscriminate dumping of garbage in the drainage and the burning of tyres in the middle of the road during festivities. Said he: “During the last students’ demonstration, tyres were burnt on the road. I hope that will not happen again. This road cost so much money. I urge you to help protect this road and other government property.”

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Commissioner for Works, Chief Law Chinwuba who described government as a continuum commended governor Obiano for keeping his promise of continuity as against what normally obtains in Nigeria where projects initiated by one administration is neglected by the succeeding administration.

Chief Chinwuba further explained that in line with the administration’s policy of Zero Tolerance of Potholes in the state, the contractor who handled the Awkuzu-Igbariam-Achalla Road was recalled to reconstruct the collapsed portion of about 4.5kilometers.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Oyi Council Area, Mr. Uchenna Okafor observed that the road is strategic as it opens access to the agricultural belt of the state as well as to the state owned Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam.
