Gov Ugwuanyi inaugurates Enugu Assembly as Ubosi emerges Speaker

The sixth Enugu State House of Assembly was inaugurated on Monday with Chief Edward Ubosi (PDP-Enugu East 1) elected as the speaker.

Chief Donatus Uzoagbado (PDP-Oji-River) emerged deputy speaker.

Inaugurating the Assembly, the clerk, Mr Christopher Chukwurah, who read a message from Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi reminded the lawmakers of the need to be committed to the building of the state.

“Having experienced the high and low points in the recent developments and weathered the storm it signifies that we are growing in the right direction.

“Nation building is a journey of dedication and commitment. I urge you all to put the recent challenge behind and forge ahead to work harmoniously to move Enugu State forward,'' he said.

The clerk administered the oath of office and allegiance on the two principal officers and decorated them with the regalia of their offices.

He handed over a copy of the standing rules of the Assembly, the mace and a copy of the bible to the new speaker.

In his acceptance speech, Ubosi commended his colleagues for finding him worthy to be the speaker and assured that he would work as “a mere presiding servant''.

He said that the sixth Assembly would work in harmony, dedication and transparency for the implementation of dividends of democracy to move the state forward. (NAN)
