BEVERLY HILLS, January 17, (THEWILL) – A fresh suicide bombing Friday evening in Gombe, the Gombe State capital, has claimed the lives of no fewer than six persons as 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

A security operative who confirmed this said a bomber struck around 6:30 pm at Kasuwan Mata, a market close to the Gombe State University, where he detonated the bomb that consumed him (the suicide bomber) along with six other persons and inflicted injuries on 10 others who were immediately rushed to the hospital.

Meanwhile, another bomb blast was averted same day as a vehicle conveying five huge explosives was intercepted at Dadin Kowa road .

According to the security operative, the vehicle was loaded with furniture and other items for a marriage ceremony, “but the police on patrol became suspicious and stopped the vehicle for a search.”

The security official, who stated that the driver of the vehicle had been arrested, said: “The driver tried to bribe them with N200 which they refused and when they started searching, he attempted fleeing and was stopped in his track. On searching of the vehicle, the five explosives, well wrapped up and concealed were seen.”

Also confirming the fresh bombing, spokesman of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the state , Umar Shittu, said : “Our workers have evacuated six bodies and 10 injured, and we believe there could be more bodies because the market is usually populated.”
