PDP Bows To Pressure, Reschedules Congresses

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday announced a review in dates for its primary elections.

No reason was given for the changes.
National Organizing Secretary Abubakar Mustapha said in a statement that the National Working Committee acted in line with “Section 29 (2) (a) and (b) of the Constitution of our Great Party (2012 as amended).”

Mustapha said the party leadership has informed Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of the changes.

However, Pointblanknews.com gathered that the review may not be connected with complaints by several aspirants that the congresses may have been hijacked.

In Rivers State, for instance, the Felix Obuah-led party executive had reportedly refused to sell nomination forms to aspirants considered hostile to Grassroots Democratic Initiative (GDI) the battle axe group of the immediate past minister of state, Chief Nyesom Wike.

The changes, according to Mustapha, include:

c. House of Representatives Primaries – 06/12/14
d. Senate Primaries – 07/12/14
e. NASS Appeals – 08/12/14
C. Governorship:
a. Return of Forms – 14/11/14
b. Screening and Appeals – 22-25/11/14
c. Governorship Primaries – 08/12/14
e. Appeals 09/12/14
D. PRESIDENTIAL:
a. Return of Forms – 15/11/14
b. Screening and Appeals – 26/11/14
c. National Convention 10-11/12/14.”
