Federal Foreign Office on the current situation in Burkina Faso

By Germany - Ministry of Foreign Affairs

BERLIN, Germany, November 3, 2014/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- On 2 November, a Federal Foreign Office spokesperson issued the following statement on the current situation in Burkina Faso:

The German Government utterly condemns the takeover of power and the suspension of constitutional order by the army in Burkina Faso. The military must immediately return power to the constitutional organs of the state.

All those in positions of responsibility are called upon to act prudently and to live up to their political responsibility. We support the African Union in its efforts towards overcoming the crisis and a return, as soon as possible, to constitutional order.

In light of the current political situation and thus lack of clarity in the country, the Federal Foreign Office advises against unnecessary trips to Burkina Faso, particularly to the capital Ouagadougou, until further notice.
