ADC WITHDRAWS FROM FOOPP

By Anayo Onukwugha

African Democratic Congress (ADC), one of the frontline opposition political parties in Rivers State says it is withdrawing its membership of the Forum of Organised Opposition Political Parties (FOOPP).

State Chairman of ADC, Chief Tamuno Roberts, who dropped the hint today in Port Harcourt said the party decided to withdraw its membership of the forum after due consideration with its national leadership.

Chief Roberts, who is also Secretary, Board of Trustess of FOOPP stated that members of ADC in the state have come to realize that the forum was founded with the sole aim of projecting Chief Davies Ibiamu-Ikanya, FOOPP's Chairman, to become a Commissioner in Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi's second cabinet.

He described as untrue, the claims by a section of the media that the sum of N200million and additional N100million were given to members of FOOPP to share, pointing out that no such monies came to them.

The ADC Chieftain, however, regretted that the leadership of FOOPP has not deemed it necessary to come out openly to refute the allegation, or possibly explain to members of the forum and the general public how the monies got missing.

Chief Roberts, who is also the Chairman, Conference of Nigeria Political (CNPP) in the state, said one of the major reasons why ADC decided to pull out of FOOPP was because members of the forum are yet to be told the specifications and terms under which the unity government in the state came into existence.

“We were told that we are in a unity government with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in the state, but, none of us entered into any agreement before this unity government. We don't even know the specifications and terms of the so-called unity government.

“We want the leadership of FOOPP to tell us if any agreement was entered before we were dragged into the unity government. We want to know who and who were there when the agreement was reached. Or was the unity government a mere arrangement between Governor Amaechi and Prince Tonye Princewill, we will like to know”, he said.

The ADC chieftain further disclosed that the idea of chief Ikanya returning as a Commissioner was never that of FOOPP, but if the Action Congress (AC).

He said members of the forum were shocked to their marrows during a visit to Governor Amaechi when they realized that the main aim of going to Government House, Port Harcourt had been subdued by the leadership of the AC who turn round to praise-sing Chief Ikanya in the presence of the governor.

Chief Tamuno stated that only the list of pilgrim submitted by the AC for the 2009 muslim pilgrimage scaled through, while those of other political parties never saw the light of day.#
