Arrest Port Harcourt CTC Chairman, Wuche, PDP Tells IG

Rivers Judiciary Crisis

By Jerry Needam

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has called on the Inspector General of Police, to arrest and interrogate, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council, Mr Nnamdi Wuche over his role in the attack on the State Judiciary and Police Officers yesterday in Port Harcourt, which was also targeted at Hon. Justice Daisy Okocha, few days after her official residence was gutted by fire.

The PDP said the call for the arrest of Mr. Nnamdi Wuche became apparent following media reports that he invaded the High Court premises with thugs and released mayhem on officers of the Nigeria Police.

According to the report, High Court Judges in the State were said to have planned to meet to rob minds over the lingering judicial crisis with a view to proferring a solution to the problem.

The CTC Chairman, who was not invited for the meeting stormed in and objected to holding the meeting at the High Court premises.

Arguments, the PDP gathered, according to media reports ensured between the CTC chairman and the Police, and the CTC Chairman acting on the instructions of Governor Amaechi and overwhelmed by the Police insistence and presence sent calls and messages across and in a matter of minutes arrived three buses load of All Progressives Congress, APC, thugs, at the High Court premises, to disrupt the meeting and confront any opposition.

The Amaechi CTC Chairman, Mr. Nnamdi Wuche gave as a condition for the meeting to proceed, that Hon Justice Daisy Okocha who was yet to arrive for the meeting and hoped to preside over the meeting, must not be allowed to enter the Court premises or preside over the meeting.

The refusal of the Police to accept his condition provoked Mr. Wuche who ordered the APC thugs to act, and violence erupted.

We commend the Commissioner of Police, in Rivers State, Dan Bature for saving the situation, which obviously was targeted at Hon. Justice Daisy Okocha.

The PDP condemns Gov Rotimi Amaechi and the APC for introducing violence into the politics of Rivers State.

This sad development and show of shame clearly shows the type of leadership the Amaechi administration offers Rivers people and an indication of what Gov Amaechi and the APC plans are, as we approach the 2015 general elections.

The PDP urges Rivers people to remain calm, peaceful and law abiding in the face of provocation by the Amaechi administration, the APC and their thugs.

The PDP assures Rivers people that charges must be pressed against the CTC Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Mr Nnamdi Wuche.
