Borno Sets Up Task Force To End Power Outage

SAN FRANCISCO, September 04, (THEWILL) - The power outage being experienced in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, and its environ in the past two months, will soon be a thing of the past.

Indications to this emerged with the setting up of an Emergency Task Force On Restoration of Electricity in Borno by the state governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima.

The Task Force has the mandate to deploy all available legal means to ensure an end to the incessant power outage in the state.

Disclosing this Thursday in Maiduguri, the Managing Director of the newly- established Borno Energy Development Company, Engineer Umar Zubairu, said the Task Force headed by him also has as members, Engineer Ibrahim Ali, the Chief of Staff, Abubakar Kyari and a staff of the Nigerian Electricity ‎Regulatory Commission‎ (NERC), Imamuddeen Talba.

He disclosed that the Task Force has since commenced its work with talks already ongoing with the various power sector stakeholders in the state, adding that at “different times between last Monday and today, Thursday, the Task Force was at the headquarters of the (defunct) Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in Abuja during which a technical meeting was held with Directors and other key officials.”

According to him, the Task Force was also at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and met with the Director, Transmission Service Provider, Engr T.O. Uwah, before holding another meeting with Mr. Nestor Divina who is head of Technical Operations and acting Managing Director of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) which supplies electricity to Borno.

He disclosed that during the various meetings, options were explored on ways to quickly restore power to the state.
