NMA ONYECHERE IN TROUBLE, AS OKIGWE WOMEN KICKS AGAINST HER HIGH-HANDEDNESS

By Imo Initiative

Okigwe women last week, lambasted the commissioner for Women Affairs in the state, Mrs Nma Love Onyechere, over what they described as her overzealous efforts to destabilize them and dominate the on-going august meeting of the women in the area.

The women who surged in anger and interrupted the meeting of the Okigwe local government council at the palace of its chairman, HRM Eze Ugochukwu, alleged that the female commissioner in her arrogant manner is using her office to stock crisis and create disunity among the women.

According to the women who spoke through their leader, Mrs Jane Nwokenta “our women have concluded rehearsals on our cultural dance to thrill our guests at the ongoing meeting, but to our greatest surprise, we now had information that Lady Nma Onyechere had gone to Amasiri, a community in Ebonyi state to hire dancers that displaced us and performed at the event, thereby rubbishing all our efforts, as well as the sense of belonging which would have been created in the women if we had performed”.

They described such act as an affront, a total disrespect to the collective sensibilities of the Okigwe people and a desecration of the exalted office of the Commissioner for women Affairs, stressing that such unbecoming attitude was meted out to the women who are ever united to chart a better course for their different communities.

The women averred that the commissioner's attitude was a solemn confirmation of various reports of improper behavior, disrespect to elders, as well as disrespect for constituted authorities.

They however called on community leaders in the area, to prevail on the commissioner to stop further intimidation of Okigwe women and give peace a chance in the interest of all, maintaining that her latest round of behavior was capable of eroding the collective support the women have given the governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.

Responding, the Chairman Okigwe Traditional Ruler's Council, HRM Eze Ugochukwu, Commended the women for taking their protest peacefully, against taking the laws into their hands, an action which he said was capable of breaching the current peace in the area.

He called on the women to remain calm and law abiding, assuring that leaders of the community would look into their petition and fashion out possible ways to settle them.
