Plot to Distabilize Ogoni: Group Defend Wike, Accuses MOSOP of Taking Sides

The attention of The Ogoni Social Democratic Network has been drawn to a press statement yesterday credited to The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) in which the honorable minister of state for education, Barr. Nyesom Wike was accused of masterminding and sponsoring a demonstration in Ogoniland ostensibly to work against the Ogoni quest to produce the next governor of Rivers State.

To say the least, The Ogoni Social Democratic Network(OSDN) is disappointed in the position of MOSOP and the continual partisan nature of MOSOP on political issues in Rivers State.

We are aware of the alignment between the present MOSOP president and the All Progressive Congress(APC) in Rivers State and have records of car gifts and financial inducements received by MOSOP and its leadership. In fact, we are aware that some members of the present MOSOP leadership are on the payroll of some APC politicians in Rivers State.

We state unequivocally that the honorable minister for education, Barr. Nyesom Wike has no business with any plot to destabilize Ogoni or plan a protest against anybody or group. We urge MOSOP which is now gradually degenerating into an arm of the APC in Rivers State to ensure that it does not subject the reputation of MOSOP to question.

We condemn this posture of MOSOP to continually issue frivolous and bogus press statements lacking in truth and credibility and will urge its leadership to maintain the neutrality expected of the organization in political party affairs.

We urge MOSOP to desist from actions that could drag the organization's reputation to the mud noting that MOSOP ought not to take sides and fabricate lies against highly placed citizens just to serve the interest of her pay-masters.
