Market capitalisation gains N113bn as index extend record

The Nigerian Stock Exchange closed on a positive note on Friday with the market capitalisation of the listed equities rising by N113bn to or 0.8 per cent to close at N14.208tn.

At the same time, the NSE All-share Index gained 0.8 per cent or 344.95 basis points to reach a new high of 43,031.81 basis points.

The year-to-date return for the index, which had reached record high above 42,000 basis points on Friday last week, now stands at 4.12 per cent.

All the sectoral indices rose on Friday with the NSE Alternative Securities Market closing flat at 948.03 basis points.

The NSE Banking Index was up by 0.76 per cent to close at 437.35 basis points, the NSE Industrial Index rose by 0.72 per cent to close at 2,724.03 basis points, while the NSE Lotus Islamic Index was up by 0.33 per cent to close at 2,857.30 basis points.

In addition, the NSE Insurance Index and the NSE Oil and Gas Index rose by 0.22 per cent and 0.16 per cent to close at 149.01 basis points and 454.93 basis points with the NSE Consumer Goods Index gaining 0.15 per cent to close at 1,046.03 basis points.

Also, the NSE 30 Index recorded a 56 per cent gain to close at 1,945.15 basis points.

Investors traded 282.464 million equities worth N3.242bn in 4,681 deals on Friday with 33 stocks recording gains and 21 others recording losses.
