THE DEATH OF MR. OLUWADAMILOLA OLORUNTOBA FALODE

By Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The tragic death of Oluwadamilola Oloruntoba Falode, which occurred on 15 February 2014, has evoked considerable concern and interest from Nigerians, and indeed the immediate family members of the deceased. It is important to underscore that, from the very outset, the Nigerian Embassy in Abu Dhabi had intervened appropriately with the local police authorities, in fulfillment of its consular responsibilities, including issuance of all documents for the repatriation of Mr. Falode's remains.

Beyond this, as far back as 3 March 2014, the Mission requested for a full report from the local police authorities, through the normal diplomatic channel, the host Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In response, by the 8 of April 2014, the host Ministry of Foreign Affairs obliged, enclosing copies of the police report and the forensic medical report. These were promptly made available to the family of the deceased.

Government is acutely aware of the pains and grief the family of the late Mr. Falode is going through at this time. We share in this grief and join in praying for the repose of the soul of the departed.

The family has expressed dissatisfaction with the Dubai police report and the Ministry is aware, that for the family, this matter is not yet fully rested. Accordingly, the Nigerian Embassy in Abu Dhabi has instructions to remain engaged on this matter and to be as helpful, as it can.
