SAN FRANCISCO, May 10, (THEWILL) â€' The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has slammed the Supervisory Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, for allegedly holding nocturnal political campaign meetings in the state while the country and the entire world were busy campaigning for the release of the abducted Chibok girls.

'It has come to the attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter, that whereas Nigerians and the good people of every continent of the world are crying and calling for the release of over 200 young Nigerian girls abducted by the terrorist group, Boko Haram, the Supervising Minister for Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike is busy holding nocturnal political campaign meetings in Rivers State,' a statement issued at the weekend by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Chris Finebone, said.

The statement said further: 'As the global call for the release of the abducted girls heightened this week, last Thursday night, APC members who infiltrated their gathering, confirmed that Nyesom Wike held a political meeting with notorious warlord, Solomon Ndigbara and his boys at Yeghe, Gokana Local Government Area, where certain decisions [now in our custody] were reached.

'The APC in Rivers State is not surprised that Nyesom Wike, under whose watch as Minister of Education, the children of Chibok secondary school where abducted, returned to conduct nocturnal political campaigns in his home state of Rivers while the entire world is pre-occupied and speaking with one voice, calling for the return of our abducted girls.

'For over nine months lecturers of polytechnics under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and lecturers of colleges of education have been on strike without the Minister batting an eyelid.'

The party also said that it was not surprised that a supposed father like Wike would feel unperturbed about the harrowing experience parents of the Chibok girls are going through at the moment.

'We are not surprised because the governor of Rivers State has already made it public that Nyesom Wike once swore with the name of his [Wike's) children in vain; confirming that the Minister is a man completely bereft of the values of family obligation and responsibility.

'We expect that Nyesom Wike should have managed to join the present efforts to have our girls back even if it meant shedding crocodile tears before television cameras like his mentor and remembering that there is God.

'However, even if the APC is not surprised at Wike's seeming insensitivity to popular feelings of people around him, which is his hallmark, we urge Wike's masters and friends to implore him, as Minister of Education, to exhibit some moral decency, for once, by concentrating on the global efforts to have our girls returned. These girls went to obtain education, which Wike superintends over in Nigeria as Minister, before they were abducted. If the Minister does not know this, then he knows nothing!,' the statement added.
