National Conference: TUC commends Federal Government

Mr Bobboi Kaigama, President, Trade Union Congress (TUC), has commended the Federal Government for convening the National Conference, saying it is a platform for Nigerians to discuss their problems and proffer solutions.

Kaigama made the commendation in an interview with journalists today in Jalingo, and said that dialogue was the best way to resolve conflicts among people.

'We believe that government's effort at bringing people together to dialogue at a National Conference is the right step in the right direction.

'Everyone knows that there are problems in the country, and if you do not want people to discuss their problems then they will take to violence,'' he said.

Kaigama expressed optimism that the exercise would prevent a breakup of the country, adding that critics had failed to come up with a clear alternative to the nation's problems.

He lauded the selection of delegates for the dialogue, saying it was done transparently and had ensured that all groups were represented.

He appealed to neighbouring countries to support Nigeria in the fight against insurgency in the North-east.

'I will appeal to the neighbouring countries, including Republic of Cameroon, Chad and Niger to support Nigeria to end acts of terror against innocent citizens,'' he said. (NAN)
