The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (APC) has accused the State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) of releasing voters register to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its ongoing membership registration.

In a statement  signed by its Special Adviser, Media to the State Chairman, Jerry Needam, the PDP slammed both the RSIEC and the APC for flouting the electoral law by beginning to cut corners too early using membership drive as a guise.

The statement said the action has exposed where the APC is hoping to rely on, for the forthcoming elections, stressing that they have already failed before starting.

The Party alleged that a whopping sum of N50, 000 per person was approved by Gov. Chubuike Amaechi to tempt them to register in APC and in addition to the sum of N30 million per council chairman and N20 million per Commissioner to also influence the unsuspecting members of the public to register with the APC in the ongoing membership registration exercise across the State.

“To both the RSIEC and the APC, this old trick is not lost on the better informed people of Rivers State and should begin to do the right thing now or be ready to face the consequences of this evil act,” the PDP said. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to take note of all the electoral data made available to the RSIEC which it has now turned into the APC working materials and act promptly,” PDP said.

Describing the APC's connivance with the RSIEC as criminal and undemocratic, the PDP maintains it cannot fold its hands to watch this illegality legitimized in the state by a negligible number of individuals who are power drunk and want to continue to lord it over the people unchecked.

“Nonetheless, we are least disturbed by these latest antics of Gov Amaechi and his cronies at RSIEC. They know they cannot go anywhere by this strategy. We insist on fair-play and adhering to the rules of the electoral contest to show our strength.  We therefore challenge the boastful APC or any other to do same,” the PDP remarked.

The party commended Rivers people for shunning the ongoing APC's membership hunt as witnessed in all wards visited, describing Rivers State as a PDP State and also noting that in Rivers State APC registration is not going on as the people have treated it with scorn.

The PDP further enjoined the people to remain resolute in their rejection of the APC even in the face of intimidation and deceit.
