The Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Saturday, said the defection of the G-5 governors to the All Progressives Congress, APC, had taught the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, a bitter lesson.

He added that the development had now forced the party to learn the moral of respecting people.

The Governor spoke to journalists at the Yola International Airport shortly before his departure from Adamawa State, where he had attended a wedding ceremony.

He said before the defection of the G-5 governors, PDP did not respect anybody regardless of the position a person occupied but their exit had made the party engage in deep introspection while it attempted to woo them back to its fold.

“Before our exit from the PDP, nobody was thinking of wooing anybody in this country; therefore, you can see that we have succeeded in at least bringing them to their senses. They have now started thinking that Rabiu Kwankwaso is important, Baba Mai Mangwaro is important. I am sure now they believed that Wamakko (Aliyu, governor of Sokoto State) is important so also the governor of Kwara State and of course the Governor of Rivers State.”

He said the PDP was now forced to embark on fence mending efforts to prevent other members from defecting to APC.

The governor said he was happy to have taken the bold decision, along with the other governors, to leave the PDP. He stated that since moving to the APC he was living happily as the party accorded him and all other members the respect they deserved.

“APC is so good. I am happy that I am now in a party that respects everybody big, small or medium. Anybody in APC is today being respected unlike the PDP where no individual, no group, no state not even a region is important to them,” he said.
